Import rules (Canada compliance summary)

Canada’s “15-year rule” (what we follow)

We only import vehicles that are 15 years old or older, based on the month and year of manufacture. Vehicles older than 15 years are generally not regulated at the time of importation under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, but they must still meet CBSA entry requirements. Licensing/registration remains provincial.

CBSA entry (what to expect)

At the border, CBSA processes the import and reviews the required documents. Import approval can depend on admissibility checks, and you may be required to pay applicable taxes/duties at entry.

Taxes/duties

Applicable import charges are handled at import. GST (5%) is payable on most goods at the time of importation, and other duties/taxes may apply depending on the vehicle and circumstances.

Alberta registration (after it lands)

For Alberta registration, imported vehicles typically require an Out of Province (OOP) Vehicle Inspection before registration. Alberta also requires vehicles brought into the province to be registered within 3 months.

Yes — every vehicle we bring in is pre-inspected and we review it against common Out-of-Province (OOP) inspection and provincial registration requirements before we proceed. While the final decision always rests with the licensed inspection facility and registry, we source and verify with the goal of a smooth, pass-ready registration process.

After the vehicle is purchased/confirmed and shipping is underway, the vehicle is considered your unit and the transaction is generally final (cancellations/changes are limited).
